Suzanne Newsome for
Lewisville Town
Council

About
I’m a retired dentist who spent my career serving the Lewisville community from my practice on Shallowford Road. As a North Carolina native with deep roots in the region, I’ve seen firsthand how town policies affect real people—especially after navigating the process of working through local regulations to convert a house to a dental office. Lewisville has given me so much over the years, and I’ve long felt called to give something back. With big changes ahead and five council seats opening up, it’s time for a seasoned voice with a fresh perspective to step forward. When I’m not worrying about the world, you’ll find me playing golf and tackling home renovation projects. Yes, there is still an unfinished sailboat in my basement.
Issues
-
Manage growth by following the Comprehensive Plan and the Unified Development Ordinance. At least five new elected officials are going to have a steep learning curve to understand and apply these large, dense documents. I pledge to prepare for the meetings.

-
How do the citizens feel about growth in Lewisville which is growing more slowly than Forsyth County and more slowly than North Carolina? I will seek out people’s opinion on this issue.

-
Make certain the zoning and growth management decisions affecting Lewisville are made in Lewisville, not Raleigh. Frankly, the good people in Raleigh don’t know us and don’t care about us.

-
Lewisville paid $1.9 million when someone threatened to sue five council members as individuals for a vote they cast. I will strictly follow the law, but I will not be bullied; I will not be pushed around nor intimidated.

Get the $1.9 million back

What I Bring to the Table
I have a “light” accounting background. Through working for an accounting firm part-time back in the day and doing my own bookkeeping and taxes, I am able to understand financial reports. I can actively participate in the review process and budget development.
I can follow laws and regulations. OSHA regulations in dentistry are incredibly detailed. Obtaining Federally Qualified Health Center designation for the doctors’ office in east Winston was hugely challenging but successful. A 640-page UDO document doesn’t scare me! Maybe a little.
I have been around town for a while. There was a time when two people who worked together at the Post Office organized the entire Christmas parade. I remember when there were three generations of Reichs working on cars. Lewisville is at an inflection point with new leadership joining the council. I have a fresh perspective tempered with knowledge of the past.
I have the desire to serve. I extracted teeth on 17 foreign mission trips and volunteered at the Community Care Center and the NC Baptist dental bus. After Hurricanes Floyd, Irene and Florence devastated parts of eastern North Carolina, I participated in disaster relief.
